If you've ever received a DVD disc that a family member or friend has burned for you, only to find that it won't play in your DVD player, you may want to take a look at the DVD556. The good folks at Denon included technology that allows this DVD player to play nearly every format of DVD out there. It's compatible with DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW discs in addition to the DVD videos you buy or rent at the store. Many DVD players only play a few of those burnable formats. The DVD556 also plays MP3 and WMA files burned on CD-R and CD-RW discs, including the WMA version 9 format, which is rumored to be nearly the equivalent in sound quality as the original audio files they are made from. Kodak and Fujifilm picture CD compatibility rounds out the playback capabilities of the DVD556. There's even a JPEG slide show feature that lets you sit back and enjoy the pictures from your latest adventure. NOTE: Due to variations in recording technology, some home-burned discs may not play on the DVD556, especially | Let's Make This Perfectly Clear | Not only does the DVD556 play multiple formats, it does it in high fashion with progressive scan technology. Progressive scan can process around twice as much video data to produce a sharper, noise-free picture with finer details. High-definition video images are faithfully displayed with optimum naturalness and beauty. High resolution audio and video D/A converters also ensure a quality picture, and digital audio outputs provide a smooth path for Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks. For fine tuning, you can adjust several aspects of the picture, including brightness, contrast, color and sharpness. | More Ways to Play | The DVD556 includes a wide variety of playback functions. For instance, if you have to stop in the middle of a movie and take it out of the player, the Resume Play feature will return to the exact spot you left off when you put the movie back in. You can also take advantage of Slow Play, Repeat Play (A-B, Chapter, Track, Disc), Random Play and Program Play. If you'd like to take a closer look at part of the movie, you can use the Picture Zoom. During play, when you press the Zoom button on the remote control, you can enlarge a picture by 2x or 4x. Use the cursor to move the enlarged viewing area up, down, to the left, or to the right. | Don't Miss Out | All of the Audio/Video outputs on the DVD556 are live, allowing you to run different audio and video outputs from the DVD player to separate inputs. So you could use the component connection to get the best signal in your home theater room, and hook up your television in the kitchen (or anywhere else) through the composite connection. So there would be no need to pause the movie you're watching so you can go make a sandwich. You can continue to watch the movie during your time in the kitchen, and you won't miss a thing. | Included With Purchase | Remote control, batteries for remote, audio cable, video cable. |
