Product Description
The GoVideo D2740 Networked DVD Player is a slim-line, sleek, networked, Progressive Scan DVD Player. The Networked DVD Player has all of the "ins" and "outs" expected on today's top of the line DVD player - Component Video out, S-Video out, Digital Audio Outs, and Progressive Scan. What sets this the Networked DVD Player apart from other DVD players is the convenient PCMCIA slot on the unit's back panel. Just take the product out of the box, insert the included Wired Ethernet card (or an optional Wireless 802.11b network card) into this slot, and with the touch of the "Network" button on the remote you can access all of the music, movies and pictures currently stored on the PC.
The GoVideo Networked DVD Player "Connects You With Entertainment" and we believe there is a lot of entertainment stored on PCs today. With the Networked DVD Player, you can stream JPEG, Tiff, PSD, PICT, and Bitmap image files, MP3 and WMA music files, and MPEG1, MPEG2 and MPEG4 video files from the PC to the living room for the first time through your home network.
With a simple press of the "Network" button, a menu appears on the TV screen showing the current computer, or media server, that the Networked DVD Player is connected to, with the content sorted into three groups: My Movies, My Music, and My Pictures. The included, easy to use Server Software installed on the PC enables the content on the PC to be aggregated so it can be viewed on the TV.
Pictures
When viewing the pictures, you can search by Album or Slideshow. Albums are simply folders or directories on the PC that contain image files. The GoVideo D5 Media Server Software is intelligent enough to see that folders that contain image files are most likely photo albums, so it displays them as such. This is another example of how GoVideo has focused on the User Interface to make this product easier to use for both computer novices and enthusiasts.
And since we can stream both Audio files and Image files, we thought, "Why not do both at the same time!" So by simply setting up a slideshow in the included Server Software, you can view your digital slideshows accompanied favorite musical soundtrack!
Music
In the My Music area, users can view all of the music files or they can sort by Artist, Album, or Genre. These sorts are simply looking for the ID3 tags within the audio files. The user can also search the Playlists that they have set up. The Networked DVD Player will read any of the popular playlist formats set up by any digital music manager.
Movies
By going into the My Movies area, you see a list of all of the MPEG1, MPEG2 and MPEG4 video files available for streaming. There are three methods for obtaining movie content on the PC today. First, a lot of content can be downloaded from the Internet. Second, a lot of people have TV tuner cards in the PC and are already recording TV shows to their PC with basic digital video recording software. Finally, many people have digital camcorders and are sending that content from the camera to the PC to do their video editing.
The Networked DVD Player can stream these movies from the PC to the TV at the touch of one button on the remote control, unlocking this valuable content that had previously been trapped on the computer. It is important to note that no content is being stored on the DVD player itself. Everything is stored on the PC's hard drive and is being streamed through the home network, through the DVD player for viewing on the TV.
